People in Serbia have always been proud of our wildlife-and Nature, on Bear, Wolf, wild Boar, Fox and Bird populations; but now, people are frightened that nothing will be left to be proud off.
in the year 2005. Serbian Tourism Ministry decided to give up on all these animals-and on all natural beauty surrounding
they are doing it for big money-and profit will be hidden under the name of tourism.
The new tourist attraction in
Local hunters empowered by officials – in their attars are inventing damage which as they “suspect” is done by wild animals, just so they can use alleged “damage” to make more damage to Mother Nature. Local authorities never responded to solutions offered by respected foreign experts, but continued to insist on extermination of wild animals. Local hoards of hunters can unconvincingly suspect, accuse and then immediately go out to 'punish' wolfs for the mysterious deaths of sheep’s or goats or any for other damage they say was done by some wild animal.

It is so obvious that the hunting lobby is strong enough to oppose any offer since in their first rows Serbian “Elite” authorities are showing off with big guns. Ministers go hunting-side by side with worst criminals.
Minister of Police himself stated he was proud on his “catch” – when he went in wolf hunt.

However, hunters are not the only ones that use loopholes in our catastrophic Animal Protection Act. Even though neighboring countries has banned uncontrolled hunting, this is why hunting most probably has a chance here, because everything that is repulsive to the West is allowed in our country: the hunting of protected species especially.
~Although more and more people in the world support ecological (synthetic) fur and are against the production of natural (animal) fur, we are not interested in bans on the farming of animals for fur like, for example, in
Just as Chinchillas, Rabbit farms are quite a boom in

Unfortunately, the problem does not just lie in the farming and slaughter of small furry animals.
Animals such as sheep, chickens, pigs, cows, horses..are reduced to objects, to “things”. They are slaughtered without anesthetic, inconsiderately. Their teeth, wings, tails and testes are cut while nothing is being given to reduce the pain.
Passing through any Serbian rural settlement, everybody can convince themselves that the above-mentioned 'techniques' are used to put animals to death, like the slow release of blood by the slitting of neck veins.

Favorite specialties and popular meals are young pigs, goats and little lambs.
Particularly ugly sights, along the busiest Serbian roads are numerous restaurants which proudly, in front of their entrance 'turns' (on the spit over the fire) little lambs, pigs or biggest ox. There is no celebration, wedding or holiday without a roast or an excess of meat fare.
We are taking this opportunity to consider some folk traditions, such as the beheading of bulls, organized geese fights, duck & cock fights, dog fights,

bull fights....and “manifestations” like “Koljane” (competition in slow slaughter and butchering of pigs)… etc

Even though those are not parts of original folk tradition, those activities were openly introduced in order to entertain foreign tourists.

Although this was conceived as a tourist attraction, it gave rise to repugnance and bitterness amongst tourists and the public, so it was prudently hidden again.

What else can we expect from some of our citizens and tourist associations; waiting to horrify and shock again under the motto of new 'tourist hits'?
As people who are more concerned about nature and animals than about profit and also as citizens of this country, we cannot help asking ourselves is

Treatment of abandoned Animals (Dogs and Cats) by authorities and veterinary stations throughout

(Belgrade City Dog kill pound-- Photo: Arka)
Dogs and Cats that are put into “stray” category are treated like garbage, openly are poisoned and brutally killed on streets, or are kidnapped from streets and then after several days of torture they are clubbed to death or suffocated and then, in plastic bags driven to the nearest waste dump where they will be covered with loads of trash and will eventually disappear under it.

The purpose of this article is not to dispute that, but to seek an answer to the question: why is
The opening of new hunting-grounds, including hunting of wolfs and bears; killings of our rare song-birds and then importing them to foreign countries, the farming of animal species endemic to other climates, what kind of tourist attractions are those?.
At the same time, our rural tourism, pictorialzed by the beauty of castles from the Middle-Ages, deteriorates, overgrown with nettle and wild flowers. Some of the cleanest drinkable waters in this part of the world lose their clearness as a result of the bad planning of industrial zones.
The rape of Serbian natural beauties is more intense then ever, and cruelty and negligence towards almost all animal species which share these expanses with us takes on proportions with a worrying outcome.
Even though it is a 'small' country,
