Subject: Criminal Codr article 269
Dear colleagues,
We would like to draw your attention to horrible and unbearable situation for animals in Serbia and responsibility of the Government of Serbia and Republic public prosecutor for failing to implement Criminal Code article 269 which is outlawing killing and maltreating of animals. "ARKA" society for the protection and welfare of animals from Novi Sad, and society friends of animals "FRIEND" from Subotica, have many documents and photographs which are proving the violation of article 269 in a different animal issues like: stray dogs and cats, transport of animals, animal markets, farm animals, wild animals, performing animals, etc...
The photographs in the attachment will illustrate you the actual situation in Serbia:
- the dancing bear Marija before confiscation. Marija is now resident of the bear centre managed by ARKA society for the protection and welfare of animals, but court from Paracin, judge Mrs.Slavica Saban decided that Marija has to be returned to her illegal Gipsy owner, because she was earning money for his family and his eight children. Judge Mrs.Slavica Saban wrote that having in mind the small number of the brown bears in the wild and presence of the poachers, destiny of one brown bear it's not important at all !
- illegal slaughtering at the animal (goat) at the market in Ruma and beating of the injured horse. Animals Angels - ARKA team for the first help to injured animals, succeed to improve situation at the animal markets Ruma and Temerin where we are present on regular bases, but this things are still happening at many other animal markets in Serbia
- one lady citizen of the tow Nis succeed to save her dog and take him from the cage, over the corps of already killed stray dogs. Other dogs and one cat that you can see at the photo, were killed right after that, (at the same place - city dump), just two hours after they been caught.
The salving of the stray dog and cat problem in Serbia means always mass catching and killing of them carried out by veterinarians and garbage collectors. The price for one corps is approximately 50 Euros paid from the budget. The municipalities in Serbia are not willing to implement proper stray dog and cat program because this is easy way to steal tens of thousands Euros from the budget.
Please writte a letter of protest to Prime Minister of Republic Serbia Mr. Vojislav Kostunica and Republic Public Prosecutor Mr. Slobodan Jankovic, as well as to serbian Embassy in your country
and help us to put enough pressure on responsible people in Government to implement Criminal Code article 269 and stop killing and suffering of the animals in Serbia,
