Belgrade authorities announced (thru media) a big roundup of street/abandoned Dogs.
Reason for this «street cleaning» is a sport manifestation «The European Olympic Youth Festival”  (will be held from 21 to 28 July in Belgrade. )

Belgrade authorities practice “street cleaning” for every manifestation they host, this “cleaning” means that all street dogs residing in the area of planed festival- has to be gone. Many are killed by inhumane methods (and you can read about those methods here: www.c4sain.bravehost.com/Reports.html >   those are past cases for which we have documentation)
and some Dogs do get bought off from shinters/dog catchers - but meny suffer badly by the time they were held in city kill pound “OVCA”.

Shinters/dogcatchers are not animal control agency- they are communal enterprises working on controlling the pest population and are using poisons and other chemicals (like T-61) to kill unwanted Dogs. 

If those young people (that are to take participation in this Festiva ) knew what is happening just so they can come in Belgrade and play some game, they would never come.
If those sportiests knew for this massacre of abandoned Dogs, they would not play the game.

ANOTHER ´FRIENDLY´ SERBIAN MASS KILLING OF DOGS OF ALL KIND ?

It was announced once agáin a round-up of errant street and abandoned dogs.
Don´t you ever learn in this part of Europe, because somehow whe know what this means:
Killings by brutal shinters in a véry unacceptable cruel way.
Even if it was a humane way of stray disposal, you would have unnessecary blood on your hands!

HUMANE WAYS OF KILLING DON´T EXIST

for only man have to and can choose between right and wrong, animals don´t.
Let´s choose killing is wrong and a sad way of existance for those who have no empathy
for inhabitants that has to live on the streets because of óur faulth.
We don´t kill our children either if whe have to much of them in the house, do we now.

I would like to say to all of you involved in this Festival to think again of what you´re getting in to.

Maybe not such a sweet and positive happening after all?

Feel deep inside that getting your act together by protesting to the killing of sentiênt beïngs like you yourself
are too, is thé only way to make this festival to be genuin and filled with the joy that it is supposed to reach out.

The City of Belgrade is honouring the European Youth Olympic Festival 2007 in a sad way

Once again we hear that the Belgrade authorities ordered a round-up of all errant animals, street and abandoned. By experience, we know what this means. A massacre carried out by people called ‘shinters’, a Serbian word which has become a cliché all over the civilised world for cruelty and brutal killing.

Ladies, Gentlemen of the EYOF Belgrade and of the Olympic Serbian Committee: did YOU request this dog massacre?

In that case, I would like to remind you that Serbia is amongst the countries which already have a very bad reputation regarding animal welfare and respect…

If the Belgrade authorities took this initiative of their own, we would ask you to intervene immediately and request them just to leave the animals alone. Please ask them to launch a sterilising program, a CATCH-NEUTER-RETURN program, and not to adopt an endless catch-and-kill policy.

The unfortunate errant animals are innocent habitants of the city of Belgrade, of Serbia – just like you. They are bothering nobody, exception made for some pathological animal-haters.

In case you shouldn’t know and for your information, late May 2007, the European Commission has been questioned by a MEP (Bart Staes) about the brutal treatment of Serbian animals. Have a look at the internet – EU!

As you can see, there are some participating countries in cc, so nobody can say: ‘Wir haben es nicht gewusst’.

We thank you in advance for preventing this ugly and unworthy action: now, and in the future, once and for all.

SAOPŠTENJE ZA NOVINARE

Povodom održavanja u Beogradu Evropskog

Olimpijskog festivala mladih od 21.do 28.O7.

Povodom obaveštenja koje je Info centar (ORKA) dastavio javnosti o odluci gradskih službi o gradskim psima tim povodom, EI17 ovim putem sapštava novinarima sledeće:

1.Izražavamo oštar protest zbog naređenja gradskih službi da se svi psi na lokacijama SC širom Beograda UKLONE! Ukupno 11 sportskih centara!

Pitamo gradske službe gde? Da li u onaj azil kog se sete da grade samo u predizbornim kampanjama? Ako bi neupućeni pomislili da novca nema, greše, ima i to mnogo, ali,... za Orkin Info centar, za 3 nova vozila za hvatanje pasa ... dosad je uloženo 50 miliona dinara!!!! Pa što to nije u redu, onda?

Zar gradske službe ne znaju da na ulicama Beograda postoji populacija «BB»(Brižit Bardo) i drugih sterilisanih pasa već 5 godina kad se ponašaju kao da ih nema?! Zovu ih lutalicama, a na svoje imena se odazivaju!

Zašto uopšte da se sklanjaju svi psi? Da neće možda psi u sportske hale da ulaze?Beograd treba da bude ponosan što se «trudi» humano da rešava problem, a ne da se stidi!

«...biće privremeno sklonjeni u Ovču» i to na 2 nedelje! Tek tako... kao da je Ovča hotel sa 5 zvezdica! Ovča nema uslove, niti osoblje za humani dvonedeljni boravak! Ipak je Ovča mesto gde se i dan danas ubijaju psi! Mnogi bi stradali od neuslova, a svi bi doživeli strašne traume...zašto se žrtvuju životinje kada može drugačije? Ovo je «lakše»!

Zašto ovom prilikom nije primenjen recept koji EI17 ima sa nadležnima već 2 godine za beogradski Maraton, sve prođe kako treba, a kuce se ne diraju? Da li zato što su godišnji odmori?

2.»...vraćanje mirnih i zdravih životinja na staništa...» piše Orka, a šta je sa ostalima pošto je predviđen dosad najmasovniji ulov u «novije» vreme? Mi znamo! Kako organizacija koja u naslovu nosi brigu i zaštitu životinja, hladnokrvno prenosi i odobrava takav naum?!
