Belgian singing groupe- “Ishtar” visited BELGRADE ZOO and lend the name of their song “O Julissi” to the newborn crocodile??
Belgian group came to compete on “Eurovision” and end up in Belgrade most uglier prison-the Belgrade ZOO. Director of zoo apparently called them to be guests on the day of naming the new born crocodile by their song (this song is to be preformed on Eurovision). Belgian singers were happy to visit Belgrade Zoo and they happily uncovered a small board (positioned on crocodile’s cage) with crocodiles new name on it. After it Belgian singers sang their song- in ZOO!
It was unnecessary and totally wrong to visit Belgrades ugliest prison-the ZOO, animals in Belgrade zoo are victims and are living in catastrophic conditions. If You do not remember how Animals in Belgrade ZOO look like, see this page: www.action4animals.bravehost.com ,www.kampanja.bravehost.com
P.S. As we later heard from our friends/BITE BACK/Belgium, the music group-ISHTAR gave donation to Belgrade zoo/ donation was in money- to secure food for crocodile (for next 3 years) ~~~~~~~~~~~ report by:C4SAIN Team/Belgrade ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVISM

Serbian Independent activists for animal rights on TV Metropolis
Tuesday, May 13. 2008. /
“Leap into reality”
Animal Rights activists made a big leap over the high barriers with journalist and leading face of the morning show “Start” Dusan Micovic popularly called Duje.
Duje gave the opportunity for animal rights activism to be heard and along with words about AR activism- the animal voice came through.
Independent Activists for Animal Rights Serbia in 10-15 minutes tried to covered several topics, by answering on questions which Duje prepared for his morning talk show. We started by answering on questions about animal rights activism and about the difference in the animal welfare and animal rights. Vivisection and IAMS/Eukanuba animal testing were next topic (+clips from short film “Bridges” was shown publicly); then we explained a bit about our “meat-less Fridays” actions and circus boycotts which both are planed for near future.
Generally, we called on compassion and action, gave public notice that we do not want animal circuses in
As we heard, prior this morning show, that the “protest note” from importer of Eukanuba/for Serbia was send to one of the newspapers in which they stated that IAMS food was not tested in laboratories and that people should stop spreading those lies about it-that’s why our activists openly called manufactures/importers of IAMS to give proof that they do not test their food on animals (in labs.)
TV Metropolis and Duje gave us good treatment and we would be happy to be their guest in near future, Animals depend on our voice and we will give our best for their voice to be heard.
JeZa/Serbian Independent activists for animal rights,
May 14. 2008./
This year, we are facing the same problems with local circus :Corona/Moscow. This Circus abuses Animals and operates in Serbia fot the past several years...
we got realy tired of them.~~~~NO MORE ANIMALS IN CIRCUSES!!!! PLEASE JOIN US AND HELP US TO MAKE THIS CIRCUS STOP TORTURING ANIMALS.~~We are calling on PROTEST against this circus with live performing animals!~~~
PROTEST against circus: Belgrade/June 16. 2008./
After numerous complaints sent to Zemun multiplicity (the only part of
PROTEST AGAINST CIRCUS MOSCOW WAS HELD IN FRONT OF THE CIRCUS TENT- CIRCUS OWNER MARIJA was very rude to our activists even showed her "f" finger to one of the activist who took photos of animals under circus tent.. Again tons of lies were served from the circus clan "animals are not abused, we love our animals, we use only domesticated animals"..
> (on the protest day- most of the animals were hidden away, but activists managed to shoot some videos and photos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsxM8h3JkVM , http://picasaweb.google.com/nephillia/CircusCorona2008,) photos and videos (made several days prior this protest) clearly show that Tigers, Lamas, Panthers.. and other wild animals were in caged around the circus tent.
>One of independent activists Olivera talked to the circus kids- (those kids "work" in circus) after they took several leaflets which activist were handing out and they wanted to tear them and throw them on grass.. After the short conversation with them/ Olivera managed to get them promote our poster
, and made them gather leaflets they had previously throw on grass..
Over all imperssion on protest- is good, activists left protest with grudge in their chests- because Animals were left in cages---
<(Animals live in feces and urine), circus leave unhealty grass as area is soaked with feces..) (storage ? "room">
Dear Sir or Madam:
I am writing this letter to express my concerns for Animals that are held against their will in the International Circus
The animals may be confined for hours, even days, in their traveling cages. The trainers use different training methods that are considered very inhumane. Whips, spikes, hotshots and electric shock devices are used to get the animals to do tricks that are unnatural for the animals. Further to that, a circus with Animals is also considered dangerous for the public. *as an examples I will give You data which can be found in newspapers and on internet)Between 1990 and 1999, there have been 47 persons who have died as a result of wild animal attacks. It is shameful that the

LAW & ORDER & JUSTICE FOR ALL

A new law regarding 'animal welfare' is being presented to the Serbian parliament in the next few weeks. The Serbian Government is claiming that the new (proposed) legislation will be excellent because, animals (ie street strays) which have been rounded up by the Serbian authorities will be kept in pounds for 30 days before they are destroyed. They declare this is much better than many EU nations, who kill animals after 7-15 days. This is the 'sweetner' being used to push through the new legislation – ie. Serbia is better than much of Europe because it keeps animals alive for longer.
The proposed legislation, which will be Article 73., states that after 30 days, stray dogs and cats can be euthanased if nobody adopts them.

What this legislation will do is, stray animals the entire length of Serbia who have been rounded up will be killed after maximum 30 days in the local pound, and if they have not been adopted, of which there is a very slim chance. From data I have been provided with from inside Serbia, this could mean a potential 1,000 stray dogs and cats being destroyed. There are big concerns amongst Serbian welfare campaigners that animals captured could be destroyed within only a few days, and the necessary paperwork adopted to show animals have reached the end of their 30 day period.

Instead of a time period of 30 days being defined as the maximum for keeping animals within the pound before commencing their destruction, we require that instead of this legislation defines that there is NO MAXIMUM period of time defined by law, and that whit the help and assistance of animal welfare organisations, animals can be kept within the pounds indefinitely, until the necessary sterilisation, vaccination, mark and fitting of ident tags to the animal(s) is undertaken. Then, and only then, can the animal(s) be released back onto the street – as a tampon solution ,if necessary and IF no other alternative such as adoption, can be achieved .
Some Serbian welfare organisations, including EPAR, have written to the Serbian Veterinary Department many times in opposition to this newly proposed legislation. ORCA, Belgrade's animal welfare organisation, has been one of the co-authors of this legislation.
The approval of ritual slaughtering will also be approved if this legislation is sanctioned. ( Article 26., 43., 45. ).
We require : every ritual slaughtering of animals to be banned - because that is the case of the extreme cruelty, and because no God asked for animals to be sacrificed..

Article 47. – write about permit of unnecessary experiments on Vertebrata .
We demand : EXPERIMENTS on Vertebrata to be banned, because their results are not significatnt for humans.

We demand: HUNTING to be banned , as very cruel activity whitch no sports-man can call a sport..
Current Serbian national legislation already exists for the protection of stray and street animals. Unfortunately, implementation is being routinely ignored by authorities and politicians right across Serbia. Serbian National Legislation for animals includes:
- from 1st January 2006, the Criminal Code of Serbia. Article 269,
Paragraph 1: anyone who is cruel to, inflicts violence or kills an animal as defined by this law, must be punished by up to a 6 month prison sentence;
Paragraph 2: if suffering or death is carried out on more than one animal, the person who inflicted this suffering can be sentenced with up to 3 years imprisonment.
any person who is cruel, violent or inflicts death on any animal making up the 'special protection' group of animals (as for example, the wolf or the brown bear) can again be sentenced to up to 3 years imprisonment.
In addition to Article 269, Article 46 of the Serbian Veterinary Law declares:
that animals have a right to life. There is no law declaring euthanasia has to be undertaken as a means of stray / street animal control.
each local community in Serbia has an obligation to provide care for abandoned dogs and cats
each community has an obligation to finance stray animal care, including the building of shelters
each community has an obligation to finance sterilisation, medical care and food for the (stray) animals
volunteer prizes can be given as an alternative for payment to people who volunteer and are directly involved with jobs that include the care and protection of abandoned / stray dogs and cats.
Since CURRENT Serbian Veterinary law does not allow the killing of stray animals, money which is currently being used by authorities for illegal animal killings in the communities should actually be re-directed into providing care for those same animals. This is exactly what Article 46 of the Serbian Veterinary Law declares.
The real answer to the massive street animal population in Serbia is for all authorities to adopt a sterilisation programme. Some sterilisation is being done in certain regions but nowhere near enough. Even animals which have been sterilised and are then returned to the street with idents on them to show this, are still being rounded up again by the Shinters (round up / kill teams), put back into the compounds and eventually killed !
This newly proposed legislation will basically give carte blanche to the authorities to do exactly what they want to with animals lives. The 30 day retention period will not be adhered to and many animals will be killed or sold on to the labs before this. Serbia simply sees this new legislation as a way of ridding the streets of stray animals under alleged 'vary good, better than the EU' wording. IT IS NOT, but simply a Passport to the Serbian Government to kill, kill, kill.
Once this legislation has possibly been approved, Serbia will then press on for Accession (membership) of the European Union.
At a meeting with campaigners this very week, mrs Sanja Celebicanin-Chief of Veterinary Inspections of Serbia , declared that e mail correspondence is NOT counted as useful by the Serbian authorities/Government; only hard (written) mail.. Her address is:
Sanja Celebicanin, Nacelnik Veterinarske Inspekcije, Uprava za veterinu
Omladinskih brigada 1, 11070 Beograd, Serbia
She asked that people do not to write her as much as they have done because she was very busy, clearing the way for street animals to go to the labs no doubt !

The truth behind the Famous Serbian music festival EXIT, which has finished today the city of Novi Sad and the cruel massacre of dogs in it's "honour" organised by city's mayor Ms Maja Gojkovic who will enter the history as the biggest animal killer
For the past few years, during the month of July, Serbian city of Novi Sad has been becoming one of the most popular destinations for music festival lovers across the Globe. International music greats such as Prodigy, Billy Idol, Lauren Hill, to name a few, have been performing for the thousands of youth from across the globe, during the 4 days every July.
However what has been happening behind the public eye is a mass slaughter of innocent stray dogs, all in the sake of so called Cleanliness for the city of Novi sad, which has been organised by the city's mayor Ms Maja Gojkovic, who in attempt to impress the festival goers with the city, committed this dog massacre.
The stray dogs have been picked up by vans and taken to so called buildings for the city's cleanliness and killed by having injections of detergent injected straight to their hearts or the alternative way by being buried alive.
Various associations for animal lovers have been trying to stop this and make this revelation public, but all the attempts have been unsuccessful and yet more dogs are being killed every day.
This is an appeal to the BBC for help. We need to stop this and make it public. None of the Serbian authorities are willing to help.
We can provide more information and should you need any please do not hesitate to contact me at your convenience.
Thank you for your consideration
Sincerely yours

Belgrade authorities announced (thru media) a big roundup of street/abandoned Dogs.
Reason for this «street cleaning» is a sport manifestation «The European Olympic Youth Festival” (will be held from 21 to 28 July in Belgrade. )
The European Olympic Youth Festival 2007. is organized by Olympic Serbian Committee (More about “ The Olympic flame in Belgrade” > http://www.oks.org.yu/defaultEng.aspx
text On Serbian: http://www.oks.org.yu/AspVest.aspx?VestID=107 )
Belgrade authorities practice “street cleaning” for every manifestation they host, this “cleaning” means that all street dogs residing in the area of planed festival- has to be gone. Many are killed by inhumane methods (and you can read about those methods here: www.c4sain.bravehost.com/Reports.html > those are past cases for which we have documentation)
and some Dogs do get bought off from shinters/dog catchers - but meny suffer badly by the time they were held in city kill pound “OVCA”.
Shinters/dogcatchers are not animal control agency- they are communal enterprises working on controlling the pest population and are using poisons and other chemicals (like T-61) to kill unwanted Dogs.
If those young people (that are to take participation in this Festiva ) knew what is happening just so they can come in Belgrade and play some game, they would never come.
If those sportiests knew for this massacre of abandoned Dogs, they would not play the game.

Protest AGAINST THE CIRCUS WITH ANIMAL ACTS- (03. Jun 2007. ) BELGRADE>>
Independent Serbian Activists, Young Artists, and one of
Date: June 03. 2007.
Time:
Location:
*On the beginning, Circus workers verbally attacked one reporter of FOX television, nearby activists rushed to give assistance and help FOX reporter (reporter wanted to take photos of white horse which was held without water) and then police got into argument between reporter and circus workers.
Circus workers said that they are about to call their embassy (Russian one) and ask for protection of Russian artists which we did not attend to see at all, we only wanted to take photos of animals that were in our eye-reach.
Circus people told police that activists and reporter were "tress passing" on their property?

"Stani Pani Kolektiv” and "Sarena Laza” held their little circus performance and showed that circus can be interesting and fun- without animals involved in performance.

Why and what did circus workers attend to stop? peacefull protest on public area which they occupied with feeces of poor incaged animals!? take
* more photos from protest>>> Fotke @Olivera 2007.
+++++Our reasons to protest:
White horse on 30C +without water ***(We could not stand seeing him thirsty in that hot wooden container, so we managed to find the bottle of water (from near by café bar) and poured it into his bowl. One of activists stayed in front of gate & talked to him gently…)

Caged Wolf (in red circle)-
Around the “cage” there was a big stinky pool mixed of dung and urine which trapped shoes of one activist. **** ( One hour before this protest started, two female activists went to see animals and how are they taken care off. After this “wolf photo” was taken, one of the circus workers attacked and chased our activists from this green area where “cage” of this wolf was located.. Circus worker chased activists and called police again. (wolf cage is on the outside "border" of circus" )

This photo was taken in front of the gate of Circus...Monkey in miniature green wooden box, pigs and rabbits on left side of photo (next photo is the same location- )

Animals were scattered around the public green area, they were all in bad condition. Public area was occupied with urine and dung (from poor encaged animals) was all over the green area. Location was very dirty and animals were not under control of their "owners"- (People could just come toward animals and do what ever they want, some gave sweets to Lamas and wanted to touch them…)
As we were informed from newspapers- 2 Camels were sick and Romanian authorities made problems because of that did not wanted to let them pass…
We are asking what is the heath state of animals now, as what activists saw- animals are held in dirty, small cages, without proper protection from sun , without water....
Over all impression of animals is that they look poor, sad and overused.
Our actions will not stop with this protest- we are going to file complaints to communal service and to other relevant institutions and citizen services. Our duty is to ban circuses with animal acts- for the sake of animals and Serbian citizens in the same time.

Honorable Officials,
People all around the globe are shocked and appalled once more, to learn of your plan to start the killing of stray animals in
It is time to join the rest of the modern, civilized world by instituting more compassionate policies toward your dogs and cats, which include spay/neuter (sterilization, desexing), as an official policy, and also, by investing your money more wisely in the construction of well-run animal shelters, so that people can go to a shelter to find lost pets and adopt new ones, instead of continuing the senseless killing .
Dogs and cats are beloved companion animals. They are innocent victims of bad policies, government inaction and ignorance. They deserve better.
